This event is part of Future Tech Week 2025, a celebration of cutting-edge research and innovation. Explore more events and discover how deep-tech is shaping the future on our dedicated page.

We will present the latest results of our activity on the realization of a high-sensitivity magnetometer for biomagnetism based on the combination of optomechanics, high temperature superconductivity and microsystems. The long-term vision of our activity is the realization of a helmet for Magnetoencephalography based on scalable multichannels with optical readout and operating at the temperature of liquid nitrogen, with a marked reduction in operating costs with respect to traditional systems working with liquid helium.

Our biomagnetic channel is expected to be resistant to applied magnetic fields and therefore able to integrate with other techniques such as MRI and transcranial magnetic stimulation, where the presence of pulsed magnetic fields prevents the use of the current technology based on SQUID sensors.

We will discuss technological solutions and the perspectives of our research with a view to increasing the TRL for the realization of prototypes of multi-channel systems for biomagnetism.

This activity has been done in the framework of the OXiNEMS project (www.oxinems.eu) and the system design has be granted with two patents both in USA (US11415642B2) and in Europe (EP3896470B1).
