BEYOND THE HYPE WEBINAR SERIES: AI IN AND FOR SCIENCE

Online

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is rapidly reshaping the scientific research landscape, influencing everything from data analysis to hypothesis generation. On 15 May 2025, a dedicated webinar titled “AI in and for Science” will bring together experts across disciplines to examine the transformative potential and critical implications of AI in scientific environments.

Organised by Hedi Karray, from the European Innovation Council (EIC), the event will explore the technical, ethical, and economic dimensions of integrating AI into research. It aims to inform and inspire decision-makers, funding bodies, and scientific stakeholders about the opportunities and challenges arising from AI-driven innovation.

Event Agenda Highlights

The agenda opens with insights from Hedi Karray, EIC Programme Manager for Artificial Intelligence, alongside a representative from the European Commission’s AI in Science Unit. A curated series of presentations will follow, each spotlighting the latest applications of AI technologies in distinct scientific domains:

  • Foundation Models in Medical Sciences – Ismail Ben Ayed (ETS Montreal)
  • AI in Materials Science – Salim Belouettar (Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology)
  • AI Agents as Scientific Assistants – Victor Botev (Iris.ai)
  • Ethical Aspects of AI in Science – Carina Prunkl (Utrecht University)
  • Investment & Business Opportunities in AI for Science – Eden Djanashvili (DeepTech Ambassador)

The final segment will feature a dynamic panel discussion among all speakers, facilitating cross-sector dialogue and knowledge exchange.

Why Attend?

With growing momentum around the use of AI in science, the webinar is timely in addressing both the technological promise and the ethical responsibilities of adopting intelligent systems in research contexts. Topics such as explainability, bias mitigation, and human oversight will feature alongside market considerations and investment dynamics.

This event provides an exceptional opportunity for stakeholders to align on critical strategies, identify collaborative potential, and gain foresight into the role of AI in shaping Europe’s scientific future.
